MARCHING BAND

Marching Band Shoes
Each student who does not already have band shoes (or needs to replace them) must purchase Drill Master band shoes. The old shoes are no longer available (and these are really awesome shoes!). Please order your shoes with the form below and submit to the box in the band office.

Please do not put your shoes in your uniform bag!!

Marching Band Uniforms
Students are responsible for cleaning their uniform. Uniforms must be dry cleaned when dirty. Victory Cleaners at Rt. 1 and Cheyney Rds will clean any GVHS Band uniform for about $15.

At band camp, students must purchase a Garnet Valley Band garnet band t-shirt for $12. These are needed for the first game! Please see a QNC officer if you need more details.

COLOR GUARD

Color Guard Shoes
Students in Color Guard must purchase soft black shoes. They must be all black - no stripes or different colored soles. The recommended shoe is a split sole dance shoe. Capezio has many of these but you may purchase any brand. They are comfortable, have a good solid sole but because of the split sole, it is easy to point your toes.

Color Guard Uniforms
Color Guard members will need to purchase stretchy black pants that have no pockets or other decoration. Generally dance pants are good but any dark black pants that fit the bill will be fine. Members will also need a plain black camisole or tank top to wear under the uniform portion.

The band purchases the top portion of the uniform that will be worn over the camisole / tank.

Students must purchase a Garnet Valley Band white t-shirt for various casual band activities. If you need a shirt or need a replacement, they can be purchased from Christina's Embroidery on State Road in Media for about $15. This price does not include embroidering your name on it. Please see a QNC officer if you need more details.

For Performances
  • Assist in set up and break down whenever possible.
  • Arrive 1/2 hour prior to performances for warm-ups.
  • Treat your instrument and others' instruments with respect and care.
  • Do not use concert time to chat. Concentrate on performing your best!

For Rehearsals

  • Be ready to start practice at the scheduled start time. Arrive early enough to set up your instrument (some take more set up), warm up, and tune.
  • Assist in set up and break down whenever possible.
  • The order of music is listed prior to rehearsal. Have your music ready.
  • Pay close attention to the conducting and verbal directions of the Conductor, including ceasing to play when so directed.
  • Mark your music in PENCIL Only. This saves a lot of rehearsal time.
  • Come to rehearsal with your part prepared. All parts are important.

Other Important Information

  • Advise your section leader or Mr. DeMarro well in advance of rehearsal when you will be absent. Excessive absences negatively impact the band, and could jeopardize your chair seating and/or your membership in the band.

  • Band members are encouraged to be supportive of each other. We are all here because we enjoy music and the people that are associated with the Garnet Valley High School Band.

  • Don't take musical criticism personally. This is not the intent of the Director or your Section Leader. If you have a personal problem with a member, please speak with that person. If this does not resolve the problem, discuss it with your section leader and/or the Director of the band.

  • Please have your folder at all rehearsals, even if you are the only person on that part. Do not take your folder if you will not be able to attend the next rehearsal.

  • Hold all extraneous communication to a minimum. Most of us in the GVHS Band have been friends for years and naturally have a lot to say to each other. Constant chatter during rehearsal subtracts from the limited time we have to improve our performance of the music.
